John M asked:
I am doing a project on the promotional products industry. Could somebody explain the pricing code of the industry? I don’t understand all the letter and digits? For example what does 2v2u stand for when below the price list of a certain item? How about $50 (v) for set up charges

I haven’t seen those - why don’t you call that particular vendor and ask?
Good luck,

In the promotional products industry, there are suppliers, who warehouse and imprint product, and distributors, who sell it to end buyers. Traditionally, most distributors were small, independent businesses that relied on their suppliers for marketing materials like catalogs. Since the catalogs produced by the suppliers were shown to the end buyers, the end buyer prices are listed. The codes refer to the margin at which these prices were marked up from the cost that the distributors pay. With the rise of larger, more professional promotional products distributors that produce their own web sites and catalogs you may be less likely to see these codes, since the materials aren’t coming from the supplier (larger distributors also get better pricing from suppliers, so they may be selling products at a lower cost than the price listed in the supplier catalog).
